Abaya Size Guide
Unsure which abaya size is right for you? You’re not alone. Abaya sizing works a little differently than regular clothing sizes, but once you understand the basics, it’s quite straightforward.
How does abaya sizing work?
Abayas are sized by length, not by body shape. The number you see on an abaya (like 52, 56, 58) refers to the length of the garment in inches. That length usually matches your height.
Here’s a general breakdown of how sizes relate to your height:
Abaya Size | Recommended Height (Feet / CM) |
---|---|
50 (125 cm) | 4'11" (149 cm) to 5'0" (153 cm) |
52 (130 cm) | 5'1" (155 cm) to 5'2" (157.5 cm) |
54 (135 cm) | 5'3" (160 cm) to 5'4" (162 cm) |
56 (140 cm) | 5'5" (165 cm) to 5'6" (167.5 cm) |
58 (145 cm) | 5'7" (170 cm) to 5'8" (172 cm) |
60 (150 cm) | 5'9" (175 cm) to 5'11" (180 cm) |
This guide is meant to help you find your ideal length, but sizing can vary slightly depending on the brand or cut of the abaya. Always check the specific size chart for each product when available.
In between sizes? Here’s what to consider
If your height falls between two sizes (for example, 5'3"), you could go with either a 52 or a 54. In most cases, we recommend sizing up if you’re unsure, especially if:
- You plan to wear the abaya with heels
- You prefer a longer, flowier look
- You want more room for layering underneath
If you’ll mostly wear it with flats, the shorter option might work better to avoid it dragging on the floor.
Does body size affect the fit?
While abaya sizes are based on length, the overall cut is typically loose and modest, allowing for a comfortable fit across various body shapes. Most of our abayas are suitable for EU sizes 36-42. For certain styles, this may vary slightly, and we include any specific fit notes in the product description.
Where should the abaya fall?
Abayas are generally designed to reach your ankles or just above the floor. However, your personal style matters. Some prefer a slightly longer length, especially when wearing heels, while others might choose a shorter style for everyday wear or to use the abaya as a layering piece.
Can an abaya be tailored?
Yes. All of our abayas are finished with a basic running stitch hem, making them easy to alter if you want to shorten the length. A local tailor can easily adjust it, or you can do it at home if you’re comfortable sewing.
